"DEAF MUSIC"
( WHAT IS DEAF MUSIC? )
Music
for the deaf is a combination of many things which include a
visual
light show that moves to the beat of the drums for which the deaf
can
"hear" with their eyes.
I
have used these methods in my "artist in residence" teaching gigs and
during
my tours of deaf events for which has never been done before.
My music for the deaf is one that has been a long time coming.
I
also ask audience members to come up on stage and tell any kind story
in
ASL and i provide the beats to the signs.
For
example, the sign for "Walking" i would make feet falling to the
ground
kind of drum beats.
For
"lighting and thunder crashing", i did hit the snare and cymbals at
the
same time and so on and play the drums right along with the ASL
story
being told by the audience members.
I
also have spontaneous dances made up by the deaf audience members and
sing
alongs.
My
show is a doorway into a very much needed "Creative release" for the
Deaf
Culture, called "DEAF MUSIC".
While
other cultures have their different styles of music, so does Deaf
Culture!
