SHAWN DALE BARNETT'S BIO AND RESUME.
Thru out the 1970's,Shawn played
with his all deaf band, the worlds
first and
only deaf band with and for
his uncles that played and did shows with
Buck
Owens of "Hee Haw" fame, Barbara
Manderl, Mel Tillis, Merle Haggard,
Tom
Jones, Bobby Bare who had a
top ten hit in the 1950s called "Millers
Cave",Connie Smith, Johnny Cash,
The Jordinares and many more famous
recording artists.
On Feb 27.1981, 3 months before
graduation from the Kansas school for
the
deaf, Shawn
turned pro at a local night
club in olathe Kansas.
After graduation in may of 81',
Shawn went on to Hollywood where Shawn
became
the drummer for the first version
of the rock group Alice-n-chains (the
only
deaf man to do so whom also
toured and opened shows for popular acts
such as
Warrant, Reo SpeedWagon, La.
guns, Poison, Skid Row, White Lion,
Nirvana and
Melissa etheridge whom Shawn
also grew up with.)
As of 1987, Shawn became the
first and only deaf man with a top ten hit
on
MTV, #7 on the billboard charts
which is a very hard thing to achieve!
To have a song being sung by
someone famous and getting paid a lot of
money
is a very big achievement!
After 15 years of establishing
himself and breaking all the rules in
the
hearing world, Shawn turned
his focus on Deaf Culture and for the last

years years and invented and

Since then, Shawn has done shows
with,Bob newhart, Paula Poundstone,Lou
Fant
from the show "Little house
on the prairie" and has worked on laying
down the
sound tracks for the remaking
of the movie "ENDLESS SUMMER".
UPDATES
In 1998, Shawn did a show in
front of 150,000 thousand people at a
balloonfest in K.C.MO.
In 1998, Shawn became the first
Deaf man to teach music to the Deaf
during an
"Artist in residence" stint
at the Kansas School For the Deaf.
In Oct of 1999, Shawn was featured
in "SILENT NEWS", a leading
newspaper for
the Deaf.
As of Jan 1.2000, Shawn released
his 6 song EP which has now sold over
43
thousand copies to date.
On Jan 12, 2000, Shawn created
the first Deaf owned record company
called
S.D.B.RECORDS.
On Feb 27, 2000 Angel Ramos
of "DEAF AMERICA" tv show joined Shawn's
staff as
a media consultant/advisor further
strengthening Shawns company.
In march of 2000, Shawn became
the first Deaf Musician to join and be
listed
in Deaf Entertainment Guild.
On April 27.2000, Shawn released
his first S.D.B.NEWSLETTER.
May 28, 2000, Shawn did a show
at the Kentucky deafestival that also
included
Ken Glickman,Tony winner Phyllis
Frelch, actor for the first Broadway
play
for "CHILDREN OF A LESSER GOD"
in 1980, before Marlee Mantlin did it in
a
movie version 1986.
On July 1.2000 Shawn played
at the Milwaukee summerfest,shaking up an
estimated 92 thousand crowd.
On July 7, 2000, Shawn became
the first deaf man with a top ten hit to
play
at Gallaudet University.
On Aug 11 and 12.2000 at the
PSAD Conference in Lancaster, PA, Shawn
became
the first American to provide
the back beats for the Deaf Russian group
"TOYS".
In Sept of 2000, Shawn became
the first deaf Drummer to be featured in
"Deaf
Canada Today" newspaper.
On Nov.17,2000,Shawn's company
merged with the Internet Deaf Club which
has
757 members, once again further
strengthening Shawn's company
On DEC 7.2000 Shawn announced
the beginning of his "20TH ANNIVERSARY
WORLD
TOUR, 1981-2001".
On DEC 31, Jan 1.2001, Shawn
kicked off his "20TH ANNIVERSARY WORLD
TOUR" at
the Lafayette Louisiana deaf
club, introducing the bass guitar to his
show
and shaking up the whole club
house.
On Jan 2.2001 Shawn appeared
on "SIGN OUT" tv show in Phoenix Arizona.
Shawn's song lyrics "GALLAUDET"(LET
YOUR LOVE LIGHT, LIGHT YOUR WAY)
has
become the official Gallaudet
healing song in light of the two slayings
at
Gally.
On Feb 19.2001, Shawn signed
the first ever 5 year contract with the
Lafayette Louisiana deaf club
.
On May 4-6,2001 Shawn become
the first deaf drummer to teach at a
summer camp
for the deaf called "Camp Dove"
for the deaf and teach deaf kids music
in
Atlanta, GA.
On Aug 11.2001 Shawn was voted
as one of the top deaf entertainers in
the
world!
On Aug 17.2001 Shawns newsletter hit the 2,100 subscribers mark!
Shawns staff member, Angel Ramos
has just recently become the
superintendent
of the Idaho school for the
deaf starting the fall of 2001 further
strengthening Shawns company!
As of Sept 2001, Jeff Marsh from
the radio station 91.7 KO-OP in Austin
Texas
became Shawns new consulant/advisor
and copyright protector.
On Oct 21.2001, Shawn's subscription list hit the 3,000 mark!
On DEC 31, Jan 1,2001-2002, Shawn
kicked off his "21ST YEAR IN THE 21ST
CENTURY WORLD TOUR, 1981-2002
at the world biggest deaf club in
Lafayette
Louisiana (LAAD) during the
biggest new years party in the nation!
Shawn has been in over 300 newspaper
articles in his 21 year career as
a
professional Deaf Drummer, Songwriter
and Educator and is talked about
via
air waves from Austin radio
weekly.
In all, Shawn Dale Barnett is
an inspiration to not only the Deaf, but
the
whole world in general!
Shawn is a fantastic example
of the power and strength of the human
spirit!

At 5 years of age in 1968, Shawn picked up the drums for the very first
time.
